Bobbi Bittker

Town Council Member

Bedford, NY

Bobbi Bittker was raised in Brooklyn by two longtime United Federation of Teachers union (UFT) members, working for the New York City Board of Education. They instilled in Bobbi, a NYC public school alumnus, the value of unions, public service and public institutions.

Today, Bobbi is a civil rights attorney whose focus is public policy and advocacy. She is an inaugural member of the Human Rights Campaign’s ProjectTHRIVE, Chair of the American Bar Association’s Civil Rights and Social Justice Section, Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Committee, an active member of the New York State Bar Association’s Committee on Civil Rights and recently joined the ABA Human Rights magazine as an Editorial Board member and contributor.

In 2019, Bobbi was elected Councilperson in the Town of Bedford, New York. In her first year, among her accomplishments, she spearheaded the Town’s first Inclusion, Diversity and Equity Advisory Committee (IDEAC), established a Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan Task Force, successfully fought for an increase in library funding, and for pay equity for women department heads. Bobbi is a founding member of the Prison Relations Advisory Committee, one unique to Bedford where the Bedford Hills and Taconic Correctional Facilities are located. A believer in good government, Bobbi plans to improve the lives of Bedford residents by addressing affordable housing, library funding, public transportation, environmental justice and growing community engagement.

Bobbi, a former Emergency Medical Technician, is now a Director of Philadelphia’s Mazzoni Center and serves on the Health Advisory Committee. Mazzoni provides comprehensive health and wellness services for the greater Philadelphia LGBTQ community. She is a board member of the Bedford Community Theatre, and a regional Silver Award mentor for the Girl Scouts. Formerly she was President of the Bet Torah Synagogue Sisterhood, Nursery School Board Chair, Youth Commission Chair, and eight-year Director on the Synagogue Board.

Bobbi is a graduate of Brandeis University with a degree in Sociology. She received her Juris Doctor from Quinnipiac University School of Law at the age of 22, while pregnant with her oldest child. Bobbi lives in Bedford, New York with her husband, three children and two rescue dogs.
